Advice to My Younger Self: Finding & Owning Your Style
Up until the past few years, I struggled a lot to ‘find my own style’. Like most of us, I went through my teenage ‘bambi’ years feeling a bit awkward and unsure of myself. I did some silly things for the sake of trying to fit in (yeah, you’ll regret those bangs) and made some mistakes along the way. It’s taken me this long to finally come to a place where I feel I can honestly say I’m comfortable with my own style. For me, that means singlet tops, boyfriend jeans, loose fitting dresses and sometimes a bit of boho.
I feel that I’ve learnt a few lessons along the way, and thought I’d share some advice I would give my younger self:
1. Become less sensitive to the opinions of others (even friends and family).
2. Trust your own instincts (forget the YouTube ‘beauty gurus’).
3. Wear what makes you comfortable.
4. Stop judging others!
5. You are not defined by what you wear.
So the moral of the story: if you want to wear short-shorts, go for it. If you want to wear balloon pants, go for it. If it makes you feel comfortable, happy and confident (and you’re not hurting anyone), then go for it!
