Brand Roundup: MooGoo / Dusty Girls Review
Happy weekend! Today we’re excited to be rolling out a new series of posts featuring our favourite beauty products on a brand-by-brand basis. We’ll be focussing on eco-conscious beauty brands because 1) we’re all about making the switch and 2) it can be hard to find reviews on this emerging, ‘new breed’ of products. As with all beauty products, there is a bit of hit-and-miss, so we’ll let you in on our top picks!
Our first roundup is on the Aussie brand Dusty Girls. This is a relatively new makeup line created by the already established skincare brand MooGoo. So we have a couple of their product here too! These products are all-natural, free of common nasties such as parabens, mineral oils and chemical preservatives, which makes them perfect for those of us who are conscious of what we put on our skin. Of course, the ingredients are also great for sensitive skins!

We had already been dabbling in the brand before we were kindly approached by Dusty Girls to try out a few more of their products.
After some trailing and testing, here’s the roundup of our favourite products:
- Mineral Blush and Bronzer – These apply super smoothly and are best applied with a large buffing brush or kabuki. The mineral blushes come in two shades – a fair, cool toned pink called “Pink Ladies” and a warmer peach shade “Golden Delicious” that (as the name suggests!) runs quite gold. Depending on your colourings and placement of the products (luckily Amy and I have quite different skin tones so we could really test these out), the mineral blush and bronzer delivers a great all-over glow for a natural, out-doorsy look. Love.
- Natural Mineral Eyeshadow – Since the thin skin of the eyelids is one of the most delicate areas of the face, it’s a good idea to switch to natural products for this area. Dusty Girls currently makes just 4 mineral eyeshadows, that are perfect for everyday brightening and shaping of the eyes. They contain jojoba and natural micas and of course, no nasties, so they may be a great option if you have sensitive eyes. We found the shades to be nicely pigmented and bendable. Our picks are “Summer Tan” and “Dark Cacao” for a warm wash of colour on the eyes.
- Aluminium Free Deodorant – This deodorant is probably the best for anybody trying to transition to a natural alternative, being the most similar in application and feel to conventional brands. The formula applies as a liquid and dries pretty quickly, without leaving any white marks or traces. Like many natural deodorants, this product won’t necessarily stop you from perspiring but it will leave you smelling clean and fresh. We wrote a detailed review on this product in our recent post on natural deodorants, that you can read here.

- Gradual Face & Body Tan – When it comes to products that are applied all over the body, it’s doubly important to make sure the ingredients are safe and natural. MooGoo’s Gradual Face and Body Tan is based on their all-natural Full Cream Moisturiser, which gives it the tick of approval! The tanning ingredients are also natural and based on canola oil. We found this tan to be really nice and subtle, and needs at least 2 applications to achieve a deeper colour. The result was a more olive brown / reddish tan, rather than a yellow tan. It’s hard to make a mistake with this product, just remember to wash your hands!
