Loving: Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow
When it comes to makeup, our aim of the game is to find sustainable, high quality products that not only work, but also contain as little synthetic ingredients as possible. Over Christmas, I was lucky enough to receive one of the Josie Maran Watercolor Eye Shadows from a certain favourite sister (guess who!) – and have been so far impressed with the results that I had to share!
If you’re not familiar with Josie Maran, the brand has entered the ranks alongside NARS and Bobbi Brown, this time championing a refreshingly new mantra: ‘luxury with a conscience’. Though their products are not 100% free of synthetic ingredients, a quick glance over their ingredient list reveals that they do source natural ingredients where possible – and organic argan oil is a must in all their products (take a peek here!). For those wondering, their eye shadows are also cruelty free, paraben free, free of synthetic fragrances and recyclable!
The shade I’ve got my hands on is called ‘Beach Sand’, and is a gorgeous shimmery gold. I’ve always favoured bronzy golds over yellow golds, and I’m happy to say Beach Sand fits into the former. The pigment is super impressive, though do be aware that it is quite shimmery (but not glittery!) and as the bottle says: a little bit really does go a long way!
True to their name, these shadows are liquid and apply like a watercolour. Simply shake the bottle and use the spongy applicator to dab a small amount onto your lids, then blend with your ring finger. Personally, I love how quick and easy these are to apply – no fussing about with a brush and the colour sets in 30 seconds.
Despite the liquid formula, I’ve found this shadow to be surprisingly long wearing and fairly smudge proof. Though the colour might fade over a days wear, I haven’t had any problems with it travelling into my eyelid crease (as often happens with my other shadows). So far so good!
At the risk of sounding like I’m plugging this brand (I promise I haven’t been paid or sponsored for this post!), I’ll add that Josie Maran partner with a number of worthwhile organisations involved in forest and wildlife preservation. This might seem to have little to do with your eye shadow, but in the interest of pursuing a more conscious lifestyle it is vital that we support brands that are making an effort to do the right thing! I know I’ll be trying more products from them in the future!
