Natural Nail Polish Picks – 100% Pure + Treat Collection
In the quest to live a healthier life, nail polishes are another beauty product that need some closer examination. As you’d expect, nail polishes do (sadly) contribute to our toxic load. Not only do conventional polishes expose us to some pretty strong fumes during application, they can also transfer irritating chemicals onto the skin after drying.
Some of the key culprits in mainstream nail polishes include dibutyl phthalate (a suspected endocrine disruptor), formaldehyde (a known carcinogen) and toluene (a skin irritant, also labelled as a developmental toxicity hazard that has been identified in human milk – yuck!).
Now, in light of this information the best thing would arguably be to go au-natural. But for the polish lovers among us that wouldn’t be much fun, would it! The good news is that natural nail polish options do exist, and these are increasing all the time. We recently tested out natural nail polishes from 100% Pure and Treat Collection, and have been very impressed! 🙂
We love 100% Pure for their innovative beauty products, which are touted as being the most pure, organic and all-natural in the world. We particularly love their makeup products dyed with natural fruit pigments – a review is overdue!
100% Pure Nail Polishes are ’10-free’, with no formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, camphor, formaldehyde resin, xylene, parabens, fragrances, phthalates and no animal ingredients. They are made in the US and of course are cruelty free.
These shades are vibrant, glossy and long wearing, and my only complaint would be the brush is a little tricky to work with (long and narrow). I didn’t notice any differences to conventional nail polishes such as OPI in terms of drying time or wear – in fact, I think these polishes were more hard wearing than my old OPI polishes.
The colours pictured (left to right) are ‘first love’ and ‘tigger melon’.
Below I’m wearing ‘first love’, one week after application. I love a good opaque, whiteout-esq pink, especially for the summer. I’m happy to report no chips, which is quite impressive since I spent the week swimming at the beach!
Treat Collection Nail Polish
Treat Collection is another recent discovery that I’ve really been pleased with. Treat Collection polishes are ‘5-free’, with no toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate and no camphor. They are made in Germany and feature a nice wide brush which makes for a very easy, even application.
For me, what really sets this line apart is their colour range. It’s just bang-on, featuring your classic vamp shades and reds, perfect summer corals and turquoises, and every shade of muted greige a girl could ever need. Needless to say, I want them all!
Here we have the shades ‘best friends forever’ (left) and ‘summer time’ (right). I’m particularly loving ‘best friends forever’ – such a gorgeous sheer pop of orange that compliments a tan perfectly.
